Big Sur Trek

We loaded up the Westy Rig and headed off to Big Sur to meet our (Deaver) aunts and uncles for the annual camp out. On the way up we decided to stop at Pinnacles National monument and weren't disappointed.

The girls were ready for the adventure

The van was fully loaded and ready to camp! EmmaJane was ready to hike (with the help of a gentle nudge from Scott)

We entered at the west entrance and really enjoyed the beautiful park and huge rocks

We had no clue what we were getting ourselves into and the little munchkins were just stoked to climb, crawl and squeeze through the cool rocks.

lots of fresh terds on the trail. We were the only people on the trail and EmmaJane was convinced there was a large beast near by waiting to eat us.

We survived the hike and enjoyed the sunset and we descended from Carmel down the coast

We arrived in Big Sur and ElvisAnn enjoyed a makeshift fort, made from an egg crate pad

On our drive we noticed a guy pulled over and peering into the sky with binoculars. We decided to pull over and realized he was looking at a California Condor in flight. A very rare encounter indeed. Double click on the condor photo to get the full effect. These guys are huge!

WE LEAVE GRANDPA WHITEHEAD'S HOUSE IN ST. GEORGE WITH NO PARTICULAR PLAN BUT TO SEE WHERE OUR VAN WOULD TAKE US IN ONE WEEK

BRIDGE ROAD WAS OUR FIRST STOP. THIS BRIDGE LED US TO OUR FIRST CAMPSITE NEAR THE GHOST TOWN. ELVISANN'S BIKE SPARKED SEVERAL LAUGHS AND COMMENTS FROM TRAVELERS DURING OUR TRIP. WHAT? ITS NOT COOL TO CARRY A KIDDIE BIKE ON A BIKE RACK :)

Our first night spent on the beautiful Santa Barbara Coast.
My buddy Steve & Ryan didn't want to miss out on our coastal journey and joined us with his 78 bus

We had to stop and check out the famous Madonna Inn and see what all the hype was about.
We were not disappointed. Amazing Style!!!

We went by the "Go Westy" store in Los Osos and ran into some family. My Grandpa Ray's younger brother Otis walked in the store along with the rest of his family. Crazy eh? What are the chances? I had no clue they owned a Westy. They were down from San Jose getting some work done. We definitely need to meet up in the future. Steve and I are always looking for Westy Friends or new recruits.

We stopped by the side of the road on the way to our campsite to enjoy the amazing view of Moro Bay

Happy Easter! ElvisAnn was so excited to follow the trail of eggs the Easter Bunny left. She was very determined to make sure she gathered all of the eggs!

ElvisAnn's waiting to see Tinker Bell! Too bad she was so shy when she saw her that she hid her face. She barely looked at her!

DaviJewell! She is already 6 months old and smiles all the time.

I'm so surprised that she would even sit on this prehistoric jaguar. She was a little nervous, can you tell?

DaviJewell liked the hippos. So did her big sister.

Scott's family came and visited with us. We had a really good time at the SD Zoo.

I was trying hard not to laugh out loud as I watched ElvisAnn play with her Mommy and baby Julius, as she calls them. Can you guess what's happening? According to ElvisAnn baby Julius was hungry!

I was dilated to a 4 when I went in. This picture was
taken just as they were hooking up my IV, I wasn't smiling
much after this.

I had the best coach, doctor, and nurse! I couldn't
have done it without em'. (my parents were there
too, just not in this picture)

We had skin to skin time with DaviJewell immediately
after she was born for 1 hour b4 they weighed and bathed her.
Scott had some skin to skin time too. Its suppose to help the baby
clean out its lungs, regulate body temp, and bonding.

Her is DaviJewell just after skin to skin time, 1 hr old!

such a neat thing to witness! DaviJewell perked up
right when ElvisAnn came up to her, it was like she
knew who she was. (single tear)

DaviJewell is a total joy. She sleeps alot and eats well. We
are so lucky to have a healthy baby. I think she trys to smile
and often looks like she is giggling. We just love our new
baby. Of course one of the first thing's her Daddy said to her
was..' I can't wait to take you camping in the van'! I'm sure Uncle
Steve is just waiting on the edge of his seat for the date.

I have never been to the OC zoo, its tiny, but they had
2 black bears, mountain lion, and some other animals.
ElvisAnn loved it!

pleasantly surprised, but bummed because I would have
dressed for the occasion.

they were all ok.

The Hwy 1 Westy trip

ElvisAnn loves running on the beach and sleeping in the van!

one of the key stops of the trip, to visit the "Go Westy" shop in Los Osos, CA. Our van felt at home with all of his relatives. The completely restored big blue 4x4 van on the right can sell for up to $120,000 and the other restored vans go for around $40,000.

Swim lessons

I was so excited that I was able to get ElvisAnn
in swim lessons with Miss Debbie. She is an awesome
teacher. She taught ElvisAnn that if she falls into a pool
to turn on her back and float. We still have a lot of work
to get her swimming and pool safe. But its a great start.
Thank you Miss Debbie!!!!! Here are pictures of her progress...

pool. Little did she know that Scott couldn't even
let ElvisAnn cry herself to sleep! Total softy when
it comes to his girl.

Ya, she floated. Scott was relieved.

Her surprise toss by her teacher to see if she will
float. (This was her last lesson, I had to push her
in the pool with all her clothes on to see if she would
remember what she's learned. She struggled, so we have
to keep practicing.)

Where did my baby go?

Success! She came up floating. Ya ElvisAnn!

By the end of her last lesson, she was floating
without crying!

I'm so proud of my little fishy!

First trip to LegoLand! Fun place, lucky for us ElvisAnn
is tall for her age so she was able to go on some of the rides.

If we ever build a playhouse I want it to
look like a lego house.

Of course we had to try out the water.

I worked really hard trying to get these two's attention.
At least Ezra thinks I'm funny!

First ride of the day. ElvisAnn loved it.

Fire Engine race, Scott claims they got the fastest
time on record.

So this picture is so not in focus and Scott has his
eyes closed, but look at ElvisAnn's excitement to go
on the boat!!!!! She was giggling so hard.

ElvisAnn was very into driving the boat. Except for when
music came on from another attraction and she threw up
her hands and started dancing.

MiniLand USA was impressive. Here is
Mardi Gra in New Orleans. When I was
taking this picture a little girl asked her Dad
if she could go there and get beads like the Lego's,
He started laughing and said "ummm, No".

Yep those are porter potties at the Presidential Inauguration,
and yes they have President Obama too.

I was so happy to see they included the seals at the warf
in San Francisco.

This was my favorite Lego creation.
Much better in person.

LA Day

We took the train to historic Olvera st. in Los Angeles. Of course our main purpose for the trip was to eat taquitos.

Our first stop in North Carolina was at Aunt Laura's townhouse where ElvisAnn had her annual photo shoot by her Auntie Lisa and Laura. (pictures coming soon) We saw oreo cows! My favorite one was the midget one on the far right. .

We had to pick up some killer shades at the truck stop on our way out to the Outer Banks... OBX

ElvisAnn with her cousin Collin, he is a big boy and reminded me what we are in for in just a few short months! Hopefully she will be as happy as Collin.

Scott took ElvisAnn down the slide, but she didn't want to do it again.

Scott was grinding corn for cornbread to go with our supper.

We had to get a famous stuffed snow cone before we left Williamsburg and headed out to Fredericksburg. (Which by the way is said to be the most haunted towns in the USA)

We got to eat Puerto Rico Food for the first time since our honeymoon. In Virginia? It wasn't quite the same, but pretty dang close. Christy and Kent both approved.

Of course we had to go swimming at Aunt Christy's house! ElvisAnn is a water lover

What an Easter we had! ElvisAnn had a an Easter Egg hunt with her friends Diego, and Sofia. They had a lot of fun "hunting" for eggs and eating all the goodies. The Easter Bunny found our house and left a basketful of fun for ElvisAnn and Scott. We later went to my aunt's house and hung out with all the cousins. Needless to say Mommy, Daddy, and ElvisAnn were pooped by the end of the weekend!

I will spare you all the details but lets just say that it took 5 hours to get there and about 5 to get home with all the delays. It was a beautiful day and it was awesome to ride. Thanks Mom for watching ElvisAnn for us!

Hike or Walk?

We really wanted to take a "family hike" last weekend in one of the canyons by our house. We brought our baby backpack to carry ElvisAnn. (please note, ElvisAnn is a heavy girl, close to 30 pounds). About halfway into our "hike" we realized that we could have just brought a stroller since the road we took was pretty flat. ElvisAnn loved the backpack and I couldn't deny her the chance to try it out for the first time. I figured that she would be safer on my back since there were signs warning us of 2 wild cats and 2 mt. lions that are seen by rangers weekly. Scary!! Needless to say it was a beautiful hike/walk, and we can't wait to take our bikes.

Christmas Train! Choo Choo

We went to Irvine Regional park to go for a ride on the Christmas Train, with our good friends the Brady's. We didn't take a picture with ElvisAnn on Santa's lap but we got close enough for her liking. (note: pictures of ElvisAnn with Santa at our ward Party, didn't go too well) It was a fun time, but a little cold!

We hope that you all have a happy Holiday season. Over the weekend we went exploring into Silverado Canyon just behind where we live. Its such a beautiful place, we love living in Portola Hills, the adventures are endless. Here are some pictures of what we found, the most interesting was 3 horses and 1 cow sharing 1 stall. I tried getting a picture of the cow touching noses with one of the horses but when I walked up they turned to look at me. We didn't find snow like we had hoped, but the mountian tops had some. Next storm that comes are way we'll be back to go sledding.

I put a ball in front of ElvisAnn when she first started to walk when she was about 11 1/2 months old. To my surprise she kicked it, then chased after it and kicked it again! I couldn't believe my eyes she was dribbling the ball all on her own. I was so excited. (For those of you that don't know- Scott and I both grew up playing soccer, All my siblings played, cousins etc. As a kid and a teen that was just part of my life. I love soccer and miss it so much. Note: if anyone wants to start a co-ed indoor team, give me a call) Anyways we began having soccer games in our kitchen, Mom vs Dad with ElvisAnn running around kicking the ball in either direction. Its pretty funny.

Scott went on a surf trip to Mexico and when he was crossing the border he saw these little soccer uniforms. He wasn't able to resist and bought one for ElvisAnn. When he got home he surprised me by putting it on her and had her dribbling around the house. I laughed so hard, mostly because the thing barely fit her. Infact she split the shorts. ElvisAnn is just a chubby kid, and sometimes we underestimate her size. She had so much fun and is pretty aggressive like her Mother is, check out that face! I can't wait for her to reach 5 when we can put her on a soccer team, hopefully with Diego; and Daniel and Scott can be the coaches. (However I will be the team trainer since I know what I'm talking about when it comes to the game. :) haha)

Well it seems that life has taken us down a path earlier than expected. Children. Believe it or not we have added an new addition to our household. Late nights out have now been turned into late nights in. ElvisAnn came into the world in late October, just before one of our favorite holidays, Halloween! This made us the happiest parents. Halloween will never be the same.
ElvisAnn is the perfect child, and what can you expect when you have two imperfect parents. She is an absolute joy and growing fast. Its the best thing that could have happend to us, and we are so glad that she wasn't delayed any longer. (This picture is of her when she was 5 months old)
